Question : If one is diagnosed with Morgellan disease (15) years, what is the procedure for for curing the disease? Hospitalization, antibiotics, anti-virals? I previously asked this question of another doctor and I received some type of response about worms. I never asked about worms, my question was about mites. I have forwarded downloaded photos I believe 4 in all. One was of my tongue after eating, one of the mite in an XXXXXXX pill bottle with the bug being on top by the alcohol line. and a few other photos. I am constantly being bitten. My sleep is minimal and I have insisted to my doctor that I wanted a skin scrapeing and stool sample. These tests have been completed and I am awaiting the results soon. Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
it is difficult to treat

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us. I can understand your concern.

Morgellons Disease is similar to Delusional parasitosis, or delusory parasitosis. This delusional parasitosis is difficult to treat. We psychiatrist used to get reference of such patients from our dermatologist colleagues. In this problem anti-psychotic medicine specifically first generation typical anti-psychotic like haloperidol or pimozide is more useful. Sometime SSRI like fluoxetine is also added. It is difficult to treat with medicines only. When patient is motivated added psychotherapy can give good improvement.

I checked image of your tongue which you have uploaded, no abnormality is seen on it.

Due to this problem you seem to be suffering from stress/depression also and for that you may need treatment.

Your skin scrap and stool reports will also come normal likely.

I recommend consulting psychiatrist for your treatment.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
