Question : hello doctor, i am XXXXXXX 24 years old. i recently caught cold and i had mucus in my throat by morning. it hurts the throat but after gorgling with hot salt water i spit out the mucus. the disturbing thing is i am getting headaches. i never had cough and yet i start cutting suddenly and this gives a small headache. i listen to music via earphones and watch movies and tv shows via earphones. i use earphones a lot, i am also experiencing little pain in the ears. so is my usage of earphones causing all this headache and is it healthy enough to use earphones to such extent.

Brief Answer:
Upper Respiratory Tract Allergy. Antihistamines and gargles will help

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.

It seems you have developed Allergic Rhinitis or Sinusitis with Post Nasal Drip.
I advise following in such situations:
1. To continue warm saline gargles.
2. To start steam inhalation. Do it 3-4 times a day.
3. Take an anti allergic like Levocetrizine. Please remember that many antihistamines like this are prescription medications and have to be monitored by a doctor.
4. A cough syrup containing mucolytic like Ambroxol helps a lot.

At present there is no indication of taking an antibiotic.

If you feel severe headache, you can take Tablet Paracetamol as on when required basis.
These methods if adopted for 5 days will make you perfectly all right.
Preferably avoid using ear phones for few days.
