                                            Question : I have had a severe case of flu the past week.I get a lot of mucus into my stomach.What can I do to relieve the problem,It has been keeping me up at night

Please take steam regularly along with saline irrigation (which you are already using).
Take a mucolytic like ambroxal or bromhexine along with nasal decongestant drops like xylometazoline.
In case the post nasal drip is very thick and is colored (yellowish or greenish) or accompanied with fever, you may need to see an ENT as an antibiotic may be required.

Mucous does not turn into gas but one tends to swallow a lot when there is post nasal drip and due to this aerophagy, belching can happen.
You can take a proton pump inhibitor along with a prokinetic for this if this is disturbing you a lot.
