Suggest Treatment For Multiple Knee Dislocation

Question: I have had four othop. sugeries for dislocation of my left knee cap. the first three. times thy were preformed.By privent doctors. The last was prefromed at the V.A. The Doctor that did the surgury . Told me that that I had another torn minicus and that my knee was in such bad shape that there was no need in trying to fix it orthoscoplcly again. Well that was three Years ago. this past winter while trying to helping my mother put up some drapery rods I dropped my drill. ON the way down I missed a step and my knee cap dislocated to the left again. After going to the va. Try did an exray and I insisted on an mri. He sent it to XXXXXXX Va. hospital. for surgen to look at it. HIS comment.WAS beside another torn menicus AND AN EXTEROR HORN. That it looked like a normal knee. all though All three joints had very little XXXXXXX between them. I ask for A full knee replacement. they fitted me whith a hinged brace. and to me to go home and and do p.t.. well that was seven months ago. And believe it or not I finally got got a consult in XXXXXXX V.A. july the 22. I am still in a pain rating 6-7 consutly An the knee will lock up at times which sends me up to rating of 10. Shuld I insist on a complete replacment or is there other things that can be done. with a knee. that has gone though such trauma. Also I raced dirt bikes for 16 years before I begain having these problems.

Brief Answer:
Yes you can go for knee replacement
Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have studied your case.
As per your history of multiple knee dislocation there is high probability of loss of cartilage and loss of knee mechanism.
AS your doctor also said that you have lost all cartilage.
So no soft tissue surgery may work in unstable knee.
I will advise to go for total knee replacement.
