Question: I have multiple nodules in my thyroid. I had an ultrasound and said it isn't cancer. When I read on line it says that the only way to tell is by a biopsy? My tumors are growing into my throat not outwards.

Brief Answer:
Please give additional information and post reports of investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/51 - visited Doctors - multiple nodule in thyroid - ultrasound - said it is not cancer - when read online it says that the only way to tell is a biopsy - tumor is growing into throat - not outwards - come back when you can not swallow or come back in a year -

Usually this is a multinodular goiter and usually benign.
Please give me some additional information:
- Since when have you got this problems of multinodular thyroid?
- Any medications taken?
- Any other investigations like MRI neck or FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology)?
- What are your complaints? You have wrote about when you can not eat come back- Please give details, how is this problem solved?

My thoughts and advise:
Since you have multi-nodular thyroid, growing into the throat and causes difficulty in swallowing, it should be operated upon, sent for biopsy reports and further care taken as per the findings of the reports of all the investigations.
Since ultrasound has been done, please post the reports.
Multiple FNACs help for the diagnosis as well as high resolution ultrasonography with color doppler mode helps to know whether this is a benign lesion or a cancer one.
It is true that unless we have the final report of FNAC or biopsy we can not label any disease beforehand. It is always the high degree of suspicion that works with clinical palpation, and the reports that decides the nature of the surgery.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
