Posted on Fri, 5 Sep 2014
Question: Yesterday I fell off a 8ft roof and landed on the right side of my tailbone on top of a ladder. I iced my lower back and took Tylenol. This morning my hip and back are sore but what I'm concerned about, is when I coughed I had a sharp pain on my right side just below the ribs and now there is a dull ache on the right side closer to the spine about half way up my back. What could it be ?

Brief Answer:
It could be muscle strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

It could be muscle strain. I advice you to follow the below mentioned guidelines -

* Give adequate rest to the involved muscle group and avoid any movement that causes pain
* Ice packing once in every 2 hours over the affected area
* Moist heat application to relax the muscles
* Local application of muscle relaxant gel
* Analgesic medications as needed
If the pain persists, get yourself examinned by your doctor

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care
