Suggest Treatment For Muscular Spasms In The Shoulders And Neck

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Mar 2017
Question: The pain began two days ago along the top of my shoulders and then continued up the back of my neck. If I sit up my shouders hurt; if I lay down my side hurts in the muscles along the ribcage. When I try to take a deep breath, it hurts along the collar bones and the front of my neck. I have been able to sleep with Tylenol PM. I have RA, medium blood pressure and take tons of meds. Thanks for letting me vent; I have a doctor's appointment at the end of the month for a new doc. My old one quit.

Brief Answer:
I think you may add to your medications some hot massages with topical anti inflammatory gels with some spinal straightening exercises , B12 supplements will be effective for most of cases .

Detailed Answer:
Hi i am Dr Ahmed Aly
thanks for using healthcaremagic site ,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns ..

I hope you feel better soon , in my opinion i think you have a kind of a muscular spasm or your rheumatoid arthritis was exaggerated by heavy lifting , changes in weather , vigorous movement or even a bad sleeping posture .
From you given history you mentioned taking tylenol and tylenol pm which will help for your pain and will ease you to sleep at night . i think you may need to add NSAIDs as tabs or gels form according to your other medications your physician may suggest the best form suitable for you.
For my patients i recommend hot massages with topical gels , B12 vitamin supplementation , muscle relaxants with some spinal straightening exercises , physiotherapy and even yoga will be helpful for most of cases .
If your pain persists i suggest MRI and X rays to rule any spinal herniation or discs and to manage post menopausal osteoporosis that is very common with aging and females are more liable to osteoporosis .
