Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Mild Diarrhea

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: Hi Doctor. I've had nausea and mild diarrhea for about 10 days. When the diarrhea hits its sudden and urgent. I also have bouts of dizziness, light headedness and a sense of spinning. I feel 'spaced out'. My eyes are more light sensitive than normal. Mild headache comes and goes. I've been cold and my temperature has not gone above about 96.3. I always run a low temperature but this is lower than normal. I do not have any chills and no body aches. I was traveling when this started: it started 3 days after my first flight and has continued since returning home. I was in XXXXXXX last week.

I'm planning to fly to San XXXXXXX this Sunday for five days. I live in XXXXXXX Oregon. I'm concerned that maybe I shouldn't fly at this time.

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Seems to be gastroenetritis .

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

I read carefully your query and understand your concerns.

So you are experiencing nausea, diarrhea ,dizziness ,lightheadedness and low body temperature from last 10 days.

It seems to be related to a viral infection of gastrointestinal tract (gastroenteritis). These infections can cause nausea ,vomiting and diarrhea .These symptoms might be mild ,moderate or severe in different cases.
Usually it is a self-limited condition that can last up to 10-15 days and clear up on its own.No specific treatment is needed.
The major complication is dehydration that might have caused your dizziness and lightheadedness.

You need plenty of rest to recover because you may feel weak and tired.
The best thing would be to postpone this fly until you feel better.
Eat small frequent meals.Bananas ,apples and rice are recommended.
-Drink plenty of fluids for rehydration.
-Measure your blood pressure.

If these symptoms don't seem to improve in some days -1 week and the diarrhea still continues then you should consult a physician and get examined.
-Physical examination is very important.
-You may need to run some tests including :
-Complete blood count
-Stool sample examination to exclude any type of infection (bacteria ,parasitic or viral)
-Thyroid function tests .

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.

Kind Regards,
