Suggest Treatment For Neuropathic Pain In Feet

Question: I have Neuropathy in my feet and they are killing me.I used to take Cymbalta along with 150 Lyrica and Metanx,but stop taking the Cymbalta because I can't afford all 3.What would help me the most.And i am starting to get panic attacks again.

Is diabetes the cause of your neuropathy or is the cause unknown? If it is associated with diabetes then controlling blood glucoses is likely to help. Similarly controlling blood pressure and cholesterol also helps, as does avoiding smoking. Regarding choice of medications, I understand the cost constraints related to cymbalta. When I see someone with neuropathy type pain I also reach out for a medicine called amytryptilline. It is an
older medication compared to the modern ones you are on. It is not the most favorable choice as the newer ones have less side effects. So check with your doctor if you are a good candidate for this. It can cause dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation , palpitations and urinary trouble (especially if you have prostate problems). I also prefer to use local Capsaicin and lidocaine ointments

Yes,I am a pre-diabetic,my A1c in December was 6.5 and is usually below 7.0 every 6 months when I have it checked.Is there nothing else that can be done for my Neuropathy besides taking these 3 medicines,Lyrica,Metanx, and Cymbalta and not get much relief.I even have a TENS meter socks that I use.Could my neuropathy be from something else.I bag groceries a couple days a week,usually 8 hr days and when I get home my feet are very painfull.I am getting very distressed that I have to live with so much pain mostly in the evening.I would appreciate and suggestions that you may have to help me.I even get 1 pair of special shoes with insoles made for me once a year.

One of the most important steps in the management of neuropathy is to determine the cause. Sometimes none is found but it is absolutely critical to investigate the matter.

So blood tests like

Vitamin B12
Folate

are useful.

But a thorough evaluation by a neurologist is required.
