Question : I have been on continuous HRT for two and a half years. prior to that I was on cyclical HRT for one year, because I was having night sweats. Ever since I have been on the continous HRT if I am late taking a tablet, or if I accidentally miss one, then a day or two later I have a bleed it is like a very, very light period, and I also feel very grumpy and moody just the how I used to feel when I was menstruating. I wasn't concerned just annoyed with my self for my lack of compliance when taking the pills. But Now I'm really worried that I could have cancer after a friend said that it could be possible! I don't have any other symptoms, and I am fit and well. I do many hours of sports each week, and I am thin and muscular. Dose is 1mg

Brief Answer:
Get examined and evaluated by an gynecologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Post menopausal bleeding requires investigation for any malignancy of urogenital system.
Examination by a gynecologist and investigations like ultrasound and pap smear.
Most likely it is withdrawal bleeding due to HRT. Uterine endometrial carcinoma is reported with HRT.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Do you mean that cancer can be caused by HRT? So I could have cancer, if I have had cancer for two and a half years, does this mean that I am probably near to death?

Brief Answer:
First the diagnosis needs to be confirmed

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Do not be so worried.
I mentioned that there may be a risk of cancer, however it has to be confirmed by appropriate tests.
Moreover, cancer is unlikely to be there for such a long duration, as other symptoms like anorexia, weight loss, jaundice, breathing difficulties are associated with prolonged cancer of any origin.
I suggest you to consult an OBGYN for a proper examination and investigations to confirm the cause and get treatment accordingly.
