Question: I am awaiting the results for my CT Scan with Contrast for a left supraclavicular mass that is hard and fixed. It is approximately 14mm (1.4cm). I have night sweats, fever fatigue and headaches. I had an ultrasound already but it needed CT Scan for further evaluation. Any more info you could provide would be helpful. I'm seeing a Surgeon tomorrow. Thanks and all my best, XXXX

Brief Answer:
it may be lymphoma

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query. I understand your concerns.

Going by the history, lymphoma is a definite possibility. It is good that there is only one lymph node mass. Then it is more easily curable.

Have you had a biopsy. If not, then that is the next step. If it turns out to be a lymphoma then cure is definitely possible.

There is possibility of other diagnosis also, including benign ones. So biopsy is must.

Hope this helps. I will be available for follow up.

The surgeon has decided to do surgery day after tomorrow to try to remove the mass and get it biopsied. He's worried about damaging nerves that control my arm though. The CT scan was negative for any mass even though the CT tech and the surgeon could clearly see the mass on the CT. The mass has him very confused. He says he can't imagine what it is. Keeps saying it feels like bone and is fixed. This all has me really worried. Doc says it could be cancer. I've got Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Doc said it even could be thyroid cancer. Please give me your feedback. Thanks so much.

Brief Answer:
Need to read the CT scan properly

Detailed Answer:
The CT scan being negative while surgeon could clearly see the mass is quite confusing. Ct scans are reported by Radiologists who are the experts. I would not rely too much on the CT tech's opinion. I would rather take the CT scans to another radiologist and get him report it. It may also be a good idea to get the radiologist examine you and correlate the mass and the CT.

I have a feeling now that it is not a mass at all, and just bone. In that event biopsy will not be fruitful. If biopsy is done, then probably just taking a small piece would suffice, so that nerves are not damaged.
