Suggest Treatment For Non-healing Armpit Boils

Question: if after a 10 day regimine of sulfamethoxazole 800M Trimethoprim 160 - should all traces be gone? What does it mean if one pea sized boil is still kind of squishy - not completely gone but does not feel hard or have a whitehead. The diagnosis is MRSA and it is contained to 1 armpit. I also have Mupirocin Ointment USP 2% There were about 6 spots that had some form of small to pea sized boil or a few smaller - 10 days ago and they are flat areas now. 10 days ago only 2 leaked slighty when the doctor ruptured them for the culture. I also put Mupirocin Ointment USP 2% on the edges of my nostrils - per my doctor, and tonight I put some on the one spot that is squishy with no whitehead but has not gone away.

Brief Answer:
Continue with mupirocin ointment for a week

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.
A week or 10 days of antibiotic course is usually enough for a superficial skin and soft tissue infection. However, residual inflammatory response may take time to resolve particularly for a deeper lesion which can feel like a squishy or nodular lesion for some time Or sometimes there may be focal elastolysis i.e breakdown of elastic tissue which can present as temporary outpouching. This should go with time.
You can continue with mupirocin ointment for another week or so.
I would like to know did the laboratory which did pus culture also report antibiotic sensitivity of the isolated bacteria?

Regards
