Brief Answer:
Anywhere between 1-8 weeks ma'am

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help.

A sputum culture investigation is used to find the specific organism causing the infection, and can take from 1-8 weeks to return a result ma'am. Depending on the laboratory and the personnel, this duration can vary.

I hope I have provided you with the information you were looking for ma'am. Please feel free to write back to me for any further assistance, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Strong antibiotics, duration varies, not cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

Treatment will include the administration of anti-tubercular medication (tablets), usually the patient can be sent home if at all he/she can religiously take the medication and is not contagious.

But if at all the patient is contagious and/or requires a doctors supervision during the course of the treatment, he/she is kept int he hospital.

Treatment can vary depending on the severity of the infection, but usually includes a higher grade of antibiotics. Some individuals have also experienced complete recovery without treatment due to a mild infection.

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria once confirmed, is just an infection; although slightly more serious and resistant, does not in anyway result in or indicate cancer.

I hope I have explained things in a manner best understood by you ma'am. Please feel free to write to me regarding anything, I am always available to help ma'am.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Monitoring may be required during therapy

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

Due to the poor respiratory history, I am guessing it will not be an easy task to battle the infection in your husband ma'am. Taking this into consideration your huband's doctors may decide to keep him in the hospital for a while. I feel this would also be beneficial as we will be able to monitor his response and recovery, and if all is going well discharge him home soon with confidence.

It also seems like he is battling with poor immunity due to the poor history with respiratory infections. I understand he is suffering with an array of symptoms ma'am, the most important aspect here is to treat the infection, everything will gradually stabilize from there on.

If at all an ultrasound or just simple percussion can be done following a chest x-ray, once the infection subsides a chest tube can be placed to drain any blood present.

Please keep in touch and keep me informed so I can be of any assistance ma'am. Hoping and praying for his quick recovery.

Best of luck.
