Suggest Treatment For Numbness And Pain On Arms

I injured my arm about 2 weeks ago...my husband and I were out collecting firewood and a log fell on my forearm. I instantly lost all use of that arm for the rest of the day. It remained sore for the following week, but did not limit its use. On the following Saturday, we spent the day on our skidoos. I felt my arm getting sore as I was using it to drive and control the sled all day. By the end of the day I could barely move it. My arm and whole hand became quite numb and tingly. A bruise developed from about mid-forearm down to my wrist. I lost all strength in my arm and hand. A week has since past and I still feel numbness and a dull shooting pain in my hand and up my entire arm. It is slowly healing, but I am concerned about any long-term effects, and if I should still go in to see a doctor to perhaps have an x-ray done. Please advise...Sincerely XXXXXXX Levesque

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for writing to Health care Magic.
I reviewed your history. The symptoms of numbness and tingling sensation in the arm following injury as a result of fall of firewood indicate injury to the nerve.
Since you also had bruise with symptoms of weakness of the arm and hand, this requires examination to assess the nature and severity of injury. Most of the mild to moderate nerve injuries will recover over 3-6 weeks.
But still consultation with orthopedic doctor is required to assess the severity of injury and to rule out fracture of the bone or ligament or tendon injuries. Yes, X-ray may be needed.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor and do get back to me with the examination reports.
Hope the information provided is helpful to you.
Please do write back for further questions.
With regards
