Suggest Treatment For Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Legs
Question: I had badly broken legs (lower--tibia?Have had surgery) and knees in the last few years. Sill in progress--full kneereplacement in two weeks. In past month I have noticed both of my feet--lower half and toes are numb and tingling. One toe frequently swells and turns purple and is very painful. None of my doctors seem to want to discuss this as we are busy with surgical preparation (understandable). However, I am concerned.

Hi!
I understand that you have had fractures of the legs and are scheduled for a knee replacement. The sort of tingling and numbness that you experience, in the toes is a neurological issue, and I suspect that there is compression of the peroneal nerve in the course of your injury which is not uncommon. Therefore I feel that the doctors are not discussing this in detail because this issue will vanish after the surgery. However, since you are taking medications for depression, it is well known that Desvenlafaxine, an anti depressant, helps in these neuropathic pains.
The other palliative drug is Carbamazepine. I mentioned Desvenlafaxine as you would get both the benefit of the antidepressant and the tingling and numbness would come down significantly.
There is another very real possibility. We both know that Warfarin is notorious for interacting badly with broad range of other drugs given for other purposes.
This could be a drug interaction, particularly the way you describe the swelling and purple discoloration of the toe.
However, we know that once Warfarin, now necessary, is stopped, this will go away.
