Question: I woke up last Friday with numbness & tingling lower half of my body.
On 27/9 I had knee replacement with spinal anaesthetic. I then had shingles across my r buttock 10 days later. But this loss of sensation is from just below my breasts. No pain associated with loss of sensation.

Brief Answer:
Methodical assessment of cause & an expert's care would help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query under Health care magic platform.I have read it & understand your symptoms.
Symptoms you have are nurological( nerve involvement either by pressure or pinching of supplying nerves) Many doubts may occur about cause of the tingling numbness below chest you have- like
- It's due to surgery itself- such symptoms will affect the nerves in vicinity of the operated area.
- Nerve damage is a rare complication following spinal prick.. & the symptoms would be in the area of prick / below .Similarly pressure symptoms due to the replacement would be at lower level of knee & only on same side.
- Extension of Shingles would necessarily accompany pain, tingling & rash
* -The possibility that remains is nerve root compression at spinal level .. may be degenerative or disc problem at lower thoracic/ lumber spine.
In this context you should consult a spinal / orthopedic surgeon, get examined & investigated to locate the spot creating trouble & get specific treatment which could be physiotherapy/ surgery in progressive & non healing cases.
* - Psychological anxiety/ stress/ depression may follow the surgery due to non adjustment to new physical condition & attaining normal post replacement movements.
help of physiotherapist/ psychological counselor would help you in such a case.
This way, methodical assessment of cause & specific management by an expert would help you out of the problem
I hope the answer was both informative & useful to you. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
