Suggest Treatment For Occasional Headache With Mild Fever

Posted on Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Question: I am a 49 year old female. 2 ongoing but managed conditions: HBP, Hypothyroidism. This question is not about those. For about 3 to 4 weeks now, I have been having moderate pain/aching all through my entire body except hands. All other body/muscles are affected. Even my feet, and especially when I stand on them. I also have this same thing during laying down and sitting, walking and such. I also seem to be running a low grade fever often with mild chills, during the times I have the fever. That seems to happen after I have been awake for several hours. I am also getting headaches occasionally. Can you help?

Brief Answer:
It can be viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. I think you may be having viral infection. Generalised body ache and fever is due to that. I would suggest you to check your following blood tests.
1.thyroid and TSH level
2. WBC and ESR
if there is sign of infection then you need to take antibiotics for it. Also if there is long standing thyroid problem that can also causes muscle pain. So make sure your thyroid hormones are normal. Meanwhile I would suggest you to take lots of fluid in diet. Also take NSAID like voveron or Brufen tablet twice daily for the next 5 days. Taking regular B complex is also useful. Do not take any of these empty stomach.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

My current labs:

TSH is below 2.0. I do take Synthroid 137 mpg one per day. So it is controlled. My last CBC- the WBC's were within normal limits. There labs are from November, 2015.
I have not have a Sed Rate done however, I can ask my PCP to order one. My Eosinophils are a little elevated. I had a sinus infection also when those labs were done. I was treated with Z-Pack, the 5 day antibiotic. So do you think it is viral? Even lasting 4 weeks?
The NSAID's you list... govern and Brufen...are those UK brands? If so we have a NSAID called Advil_ generic ibuprofen, 200mg tablet, is this the same but in a USA medicine?

I think you are still having viral infection

Hello,

Yes viral infection can last up to 4 weeks. I think you are still having viral infection. I would suggest you to get blood test and ESR . This can confirm our diagnosis.

Voveron and Brufen are brands available in XXXXXXX Brufen 400 mg per day can be taken if you have this available with you. Advil is same as Brufen in XXXXXXX Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
