Suggest Treatment For Oral Herpes

Question: A neighbor with a cold sore came up to my car window to chat and breathed in my face while talking. I have never had a cold sore before and I am wondering if it is possible for it to transmit in this way. Several sites have said it can transmit by droplets in a persons breathe while others say direct contact is needed. I have a newborn and I'm scared of passing it on to him if so.

Brief Answer:
Highly unlikely that you will be infected

Detailed Answer:
Hi calil
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
Based on the information it is highly unlikely that you will have this.
Common modes of transmission include
1.Direct skin-to-skin or mucous membrane contact with someone who has an active cold sore
2. Sharing items -- Sharing utensils, drinks, napkins, towels, toothbrushes, or any other objects that have touched a cold sore
3. Kissing and having sex with an active cold sore individual.

So I feel you are fine, relax.
Take care

Why do so many sites state that cold sores/oral herpes can "even be spread from droplets when someone breathes". What is meant by this?

Brief Answer:
Herpes is not an air borne virus. You catch from skin to skin contact.

What if spit from a person with a cold sore were to land on the lip of an uninfected individual while having a conversation? What is the likelihood of transmission in that scenario?

Brief Answer:
Highly unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
It can occur theoretically but in reality it iis highly unlikely. The uninfected individual should have broken mucous membranes.
Hope this helps
Take care
