Brief Answer:
Age related joint degeneration.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis at her age with surgical menopause 14 years ago is a common finding. This is due to age related degenerative changes in the joints. The treatment is given to retard the further progression of the disease and to have a symptomatic relief. She is getting the right medicines. In addition to it she can try gaultheria oil or oil of winter green,so many patients of mine are telling they are relieved of pain with that.

She has to apply the oil on the area that has pain.

Increasing the dietary fish intake and/or fish oil capsules (omega-3 capsules) can sometimes reduce the inflammation .

Take vegetables and fruits that are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Calcium, Omega-3 Fatty acid, Zinc, Magensium and many more.

Hydrotherapy or Water Therapy for treatment of arthritis- Warm water is excellent source to ease and reduce joint pain, it relaxes muscles and increases motion.

Joint Fluid Therapy- It is process of injecting gel in the joints and it act as supplement for synovial fluid to cure arthritis. They include Synvisc, Hyalgan, Euflexxa and others. They are also for temporary relief in arthritis pain.
You can discuss these options with her orthopedician and get the proper injections for relief in case the pain is severe and uncontrollable.
I would also like to give some advice to make the life better and to fight with these pains-
Do regular physiotherapy of joints. Consult a physiotherapist for it.
Hot bath of Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate)-Magnesium has both anti-inflammatory and anti- arthritic properties and it can be absorbed through the skin.

I hope this answers your query.
