Suggest Treatment For Osteoporosis While On Prolia

Question : I have MS and have recently been told I have osteoporosis. My doctor has recommended prolia but I am concerned about something else that impacts my immune system. I have not been taking calcium. Could taking it avoid the need for prolia? Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
If you have severe osteoporosis then taking calcium alone will not substitute for the need to take proper anti-osteoporosis medication.

So the important point is how bad is the osteoporosis.

When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically order the following tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:

CBC
Electrolytes
Calcium
HbA1c
Liver function tests
Kidney function tests
TSH
25 hydroxy Vitamin D
