Suggest Treatment For Ovarian Cysts And Tinging Sensation On The Right Side

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Jun 2016
Question: I currently have a right ovarian cyst that is 5 cm. It just came with my last ovulation 1 week ago.
I've woken to my whole right side (foot to arm) tingling and feeling numb.
I had intense pain at points last night before falling asleep. I also felt randomly nauseas after dinner last night. I'm not sure if the cyst burst as I've heard it's extremely painful and yesterday's pain was about a 7/10.
I'm about to leave the country in one week for work and my travel insurance requires me to not have had any change in medications, tests or worsening symptoms — as indicated by a doctor — one week before departure.

I'm wondering if this requires immediate attention or if I can wait it out. Are there any signs that there is clotting or that the cyst has burst and my tingling is from the fluid entering my blood stream ?

I had the same size cyst last January and it luckily went away with my period. On the ultra sound it looked as though my body had just absorbed it and that it had not burst. I'm hoping the same will happen with this one.

Thanks for your help and advice !

Brief Answer:
Need urgent medical attention and proper evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) According to your information and clinical features, it could be

a) Ruptured ovarian cyst, b) Appendicitis, c) Twisting of ovary or Ovarian torsion, d) Constipation, e) Large follicular cyst itself etc.

2) Most of the patients with medium size ovarian cyst may NOT experience any clinical symptoms. Some may be present with dull aching pain during intercourse or period. However, your pain type is slight different.

3) You need urgent medical attention and proceed clinical examination to rule out above mentioned pathology. I suggest you to undergo one pelvic ultrasound scan for confirmation.

4) If there is NO pelvic pathology is detected, then I can suggest you to take some pain killer like Ibuprofen etc. Kindly, consult with your doctor and take complete prescription. It will be more worthwhile.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.

Thank you for your reaponse !

Just wondering why it would be appendicitis when i know that i definitely have an ovarian cyst that is 5 cm.
wouldnt i be feeling deathly ill if that were the case ?
This morning i am not experiencing as much pain as yesterday.
Also, is it always dangerous if the cyst ruptures ?

I am currenrly a bit constipated from taking tylenol with codeine.
Also my breasts are tender and are quite itchy

Thank you ! .

Brief Answer:
Need proper evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Welcome back again.

1) You should know that more than 1/3rd to 1/2 of the patients don't have typical symptoms of appendicitis. Common presentation is right lower abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting etc. Therefore, it needs to be ruled out.

2) Ruptured ovarian cyst is mostly self-limiting and abdominal pain is the main concern. It goes away within few days to weeks and you need to take some painkiller during these days. However, it may cause little bleeding inside the abdominal cavity and can be dangerous.

I suggest you to contact with local doctor for complete health check up and proceed one ultrasound scan to be sure that you have NO pelvic pathology.

Hope, it helps for your information. Good luck and take care.

Hello Dr. Patra

I did have an ultra sound on tuesday. It was seen that i have a 5 cm cyst on my right ovary. The appendix did not look inflamed, however the cyst is pushing on it.
Sorry for not being more specific about having had an ultra sound.
This is why im curious about symptoms of a ruptured cyst. I have full feeling back in my arms and legs, i still have pain in my ovary, and slight naseaus after eating.

Thanks for all your help.
Also do you specialize in gynecology ?

Warmly,
XXXX
