Question : I have pain across my temples and forehead. Not inside my head. Nothing helped i.e aspirin, Advil, etc. The MRI showed showed nothing to cause this. Peppermint oil seems to help. A neurologist couldn't find any cause and proscribed Tizanidine 2mg daily, 7 days and then continue twice a day. I looked it up and and I saw the effects and dependency. What can I do rather then take this type of medicine or what may be causing this.
Brief Answer:
Tension-type headaches most probably.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Tizanidine is a drug used as a muscle relaxant, so, if the Neurologist thinks that muscles spasms are causing your headaches, it could be of help in improving them.
It is true that there may be some adverse effects, so, I think you should try it for few days, if no improvement, then stop it gradually.
Other drugs that may help if the muscles spasms are suspected is Thiocolchicoside.
Since peppermint oil helps I think you should continue it.
With a normal brain MRI, tension-type headaches (primary headaches) remain the most likely diagnosis.
