Question : hello I've been having some pain/discomfort in my buttocks area, well more like around my anus or sometimes in it. (I feel very odd asking about this and how to word it so please bare with me) but this pain can range from a dull ache to a quick sharp pain. im also having pain in the middle left side of my back. again, this pain feels like a dull ache to quick, sharp pains. not sure if you already know my age and gender but I'm at 27 year old female if that helps. I've been having some stomach discomfort as well that feels like I'm bloated, gassy or backed up. I've been to the hospital complaining of all of this and just keep walking out with no answers or they tell me it's IBS. I just want to get an idea in what this could really be so I can get it under control and the pain can stop! thank you in advance!

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history well and understood the concerns.
Please give some additional information for me to assist you better:
Since when are these problems present? In chronological way please.
Do the pains in the back and in anus coincide or not related?
How are the stools? Color, consistency, smell, passing gases, sticky, blood, black?
What do you do? Any stress or anxiety related issues?
What are the factors that instigate or enhance the problems?
Any relieving factors?
Any investigations? Please post reports if done?
What are the medicines given?
Any other information please.
Awaiting.

the stomach discomfort was the very first issue and that came on about 3 months ago and then buttocks/back pain came on about a month ago now. Yes I believe the back pain and buttocks pain are related as they started at the same time but I am not positive. My stools vary, for a while it was mostly loose stools and now they seem to be getting back to normal. I haven't noticed any blood in the stool but I did notice quite a bit of mucus. With gas I feel like I have alot of it and am not passing nearly enough. I suffer with extreme anxiety and am currently not on any meds for it. The hospital prescribed me bentyl on my last visit. Some days the pain is there and some days i feel hardly any pain at all. Its a sharp or dull ache and sometimes what feels like a muscle spasm in the anus area. I hope i answered your questions accordingly. thank you!
Brief Answer:
Necessary investigations is the mainstay of diagnosis and proper management
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Since the problem has started three months ago and as explained further, the following things should have helped to get a proper diagnosis and management:
Clinical evaluation has already been done.
Actual DRE that is digital rectal examination and ano-proctoscopy helps to know the cause of pain at anus; this can be due to fissure, proctitis and so on.
Tests of stool for three consecutive days many a times give a diagnosis so that an appropriate management can be done as per the reports.
Tests of blood: CBC, liver and thyroid functions, others as required.
Ultrasonography of abdomen and confirmatory CT scan of the whole abdomen.
If preliminary treatment does not help, colonoscopy and biopsy.
All these things will lead to a proper diagnosis; if a specific cause is found then you would have received the specific treatment.
If all the tests are negative then only your problem can be labelled as IBS and treated accordingly in which control of anxiety and/or stress is the mainstay then.
Clinical evaluation, examination and necessary investigations for the back pain, its correlation with abdominal problems can be helpful further.
Avoidance of all the factors, foods and beverages that instigate or enhance the problems should be avoided at any cost.
Please discuss all these issues with your treating Doctors/Gastroenterologist, get the investigations done to get an appropriate diagnosis and proper management to get a cure.
I hope this answer helps you.
Take care.
