Question: I have been having problems in my throat and neck area. When I lay down at night. I get woke up with a tight feeling in the right side of my neck and numbness in my arms and legs. Sometimes when I get out of bed and try to walk I am unsteady. Also experience sweating with this and sometimes my blood pressure is elevated, the highest I recorded was 190/75. I have also recorded my pulse at 98. My blood pressure usually runs 110/60 my pulse is usually in the low 60's. I also get a feeling in the front of my throat like a throbbing and a tightness in my breathing in that area. If I get up and walk around things seem to go back to normal, however if I lay back down and try to sleep it happens again. This happens mostly at night when I am laying down, but I have also experienced the throbbing feeling in throat and the difficulty breathing when I exert myself. What could be the cause of this?

Brief Answer:
evaluate the cardiac status.consult physician.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome
i understood your problem and i am trying to solve it.
according to your history, it seems to be associated with cardiac problem. high B. P often cause sweating, difficulty in breathing and chocking like sensations. difficult breathing while exertion also suggest cardiac etiology.
difficulty while sleeping AND relief when you stand up suggest that it is a cardiac dysfunction.
I advise you to consult physician for B.P controll and to evaluate the cardiac status. ECG and ECHO can be useful to evaluate the cardiac function.
Hope you are satisfied with my answer. you can ask any query direct to me.

Hi. Thank you for your response. I called my doctors office today and the nurse spoke with me. He said that what I have is anxiety. He doesn't even know me. He didn't speak with my doctor. I go to a clinic with about 20 providers. Because he feels my problem is anxiety I couldn't get an appointment for 27 days. I also have like a protrusion of the vein in the right side of my neck. It's not huge but its bigger then the other side, and it hasn't always been like that. I don't know a lot about the body. I just know I haven't felt well and would like to get to the bottom of this. Also when I get woke up at night with these symptoms I have experienced pain in that side of my neck down into the top of my stomach. Are these possibly cardiac symptoms also or something else?

Brief Answer:
All these suggest Cardiac SYMPTOMS. Consult doctor for detail evaluation.

Detailed Answer:

Thanks for your query.
As you are saying your symptoms are relieved when you take fresh air or when you get up, it shows that it is not associated with anxiety only. All these symptoms suggest some cardiac problem for which evaluation is must.
Prominent right side vein suggest increased jugular venous pressure which is definitely a sign of cardiac dysfunction.
Also increase pain near right side of stomach can be due to the increase back pressure due to cardiac problem. Anxiety can be a part of your symptom but before saying that all these are due to anxiety, you have to rule out cardiac problem by proper evaluation.
Echocardiography and Chest X-RAY will be useful you.

Hope you are satisfied with my answer.
Dr Kunjan H Shah.
Thanks

Thank you, Take care
