Question : My mom (84 years old) has a pain on one side of her body. The pain is not relieved by pain medication (hydrocodone). She does not have numbness or weakness on that side. She had a stroke in January of this year. She does has peripheral neuropathy. She is not diabetic. Should we go to the emergency room?
Brief Answer:
If pain is of recent origin , Take her to ER.
Detailed Answer:
Hi ,I am Dr Gopal Goel, Orthopedic Surgeon.
With History of stroke in January and one sided body pain , I am inclined to think that the cause could be in her brain, related to stroke like a hematoma or ischemia .I would suggest a CT Scan ASAP. If the pain is recent in origin, then take her to ER , else get a CT Scan first and consult a neurologist.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
