Suggest Treatment For Pain And Soreness On Left Lower Abdomen

Question : I woke midnight pain & soreness on left lower abs. Periodically next day very sharp pain, incld urinary tract. Second night sharp pains increased & began fever 102. Pain lessened on right & began over navel & on left side. No bowel function for 24 hrs, bloating. Pain periodically w/ fever dropping 101.7. Broke fever 4th night & pains regularly lessening. Next morning no fever & diarreah w/ much mucus. 5th & 6th days no fever but still sluggish bowel & discomfort in all lower ab area. Tender to touch but sharp pain gone. Had full hysterectomy yrs prior. Was told then I had a lot of scar tissue in an area, have had 2 surgeries & 2 laparoscopic procedures prior.

Dear Ms

Going by description of your symptoms possibility of Pelvic inflammatory disease or other intraabddominal infective foci needs to be considered along with subacute intestinal obstruction(incomplete obstruction of bowel which could be due to previous adhesion due to surgery ). Exact diagnosis will depend on clinical examination.

You will require the following investigation in consultation with your Physician

1. Erect X ray abdomen

2. Ultrasound scan of abdomen

3. Complete blood count

4. Urine routine and microscopic examination

5. Urine Culture and antibiotic sensitivity

I would suggest you to consult your physician for detailed assessment and clinical examination.

In the meantime till you consult your physician I would advise you the following

1. Continue taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen for control of Fever

2. Soft diet

3. Antispasmodic like Drotavarin will help relieve intestinal spasm

4. Antibiotics to be started once urine culture is submitted
