Question : I have swelling and pain in the back of the knee a week after an injury to my calf muscle (likely a strain, according to my doctor). Is this something I should have checked out, or is it normal? I should add that the pain and swelling in the back of the knee just started yesterday, which was a week after the initial calf injury.

Brief Answer:
It's not normal.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Thanks for posting your query.

No it is definitely not normal thing for a swelling behind the knee . It could be either collection of blood or pus or it could be a cyst .

I recommend you to consult either an orthopedic surgeon and get evaluated . For the time being you can keep hot compresses and if pain is bothering you can take Tyelenol till you consult a doctor.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.

Regards.
