Question : I caught my hand in the car door last night. Last night, it was a bruised area about the size of a half dollar and about 1/2 inches tall (the swelling). This morning, the swelling is lower but a larger area; the bruise on the back of my hand begins at my wrist and has spread to the bottom knuckles of my fingers. I have a compression bandage on it. Should I be worried?

Not worrisome.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The bruise and the swelling in the area is suggestive of a soft tissue injury in the area. As the blood spreads the color of the bruise also spreads. it does not indicate the severity of the injury. You can keep your hand elevated in an arm sling to avoid the coloration to spread. The coloration will fade away gradually as the bruise heals.
I hope this answers your query.
