Question: approximately 8 days ago i noticed a pain at the top of my spine back of my right ear,,the pillows in the hotel are very hard and i could not locate my head in a comfortable position. i popped a few ibupropens the next day and went to work as a flight attendant with that area a little sore. at break time, again, with my head in an uncomfortable position in the passenger seat, that area of the top of the spine behind the right ear hurt. i could actually feel the area that hurt..it wasnt an elusive ache as some people have or migrane. i never get head aches, just sprains. the pain goes away when i am upright. it hurts when i lay down with my head on a semi hard pillow. i lift heavy objects over my head daily but the pain only occured recently and goes away with ibuprofen. my chiropractor says it is a sprain to the subocciputal due to my reaching and pulling and tugging overhead galley recepticles. a friend says a family member died of a berry aneurysm which caused a cerebral vascular accident and she passed away 24 hrs later. i just had the chiropractic adjustment tonight and feel no pain. is there a possibility i have had an aneurysm? with all the physical activity i had today, i would think there would have been pain after the ibuprofen wore off that i took over 11 hours ago. the pain becomes noticeable only when my head can not be situated on an appropriate pillow. it has occurred only within the last week and a half and generallt is non-existant during the day. to me, this does not sound like a hemorrage or aneurysm . does it to you? Brief Answer: Possibility of acute muscle spasm in neck Detailed Answer: Hello, I have studied your case with diligence. As per your symptom and history there is possibility of acute muscle spasm in neck or there can be cervical disc compression. Due to compression of this nerve root there is pain associated with it. For these symptoms muscle relaxant with analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started consulting your treating doctor. Till time take rest and continue analgesic available over the counter take rest, and hot fomentation. Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief. You may need to do MRI cervical spine if symptoms persist. I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level. You need to follow ergonomics during working and carry your own pillow while you travel. Possibility of haemorrhage and aneurysm is less likely. After clinical examination and investigation like MRI you can confirmly rule out aneurysm. Hope this answers your query.
