Suggest Treatment For Pain Behind The Knee

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: I have been having a lot of pain behind my right knee and by the end of the day I can feel a knot. It also runs down the outside of my leg. I am obese and thought it might be because of my weight because both knees hurt and I have difficult bending them. I can not get on my knees anymore because they feel like they will burst.

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description , it appears to be a bakers cyst related to osteoarthritis. A Baker's cyst occurs when excess joint fluid is pushed into small sac of tissue behind the knee and bulges out.

The knees need to be examined. MRI can be advised to assess for cartilage or meniscal damage and wear / tear.

Diacerine, glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate combination can be advised as part of the treatment for osteoarthritis.

For the baker cyst, cortisone local shot, ultrasound guided drainage of the cyst , icing the area with cold compression and ultimately surgical removal of the cyst can be advised.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
