Question : I am a 64 yr old male in reasonably good health. No diabetes,no blood pressure , I have some form of arthritis which affects my ligaments and joints.i have some pain in hands & feet but the worst problem I have is my neck and I think causes me to have a really bad head . The result is a headache and severe brain fog which affects my full body. I have had to stop working and many days I can only lay in bed until I feel well enough to get up and try to function.

Brief Answer:
Physical therapy is more important than drugs.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I am sorry about the symptoms you are experiencing.

That type of complaint is pretty common in the case of arthritic changes in the neck. The pain killers you have been recommended can be of help, the usual ones are the non steroid antiinflammatory drugs. Their long term use can have side effects though.

Immobilization by using a soft collar is also widely recommended, at least for a few weeks. The issue must also be addressed through physical therapy. It consists in exercises to strengthen and stretch the neck muscles. Exercises at least in the beginning should be taught and monitored by a physical therapist. Also often mechanical traction is used with the aim of widening the vertebral foramina.

I remain at your disposal for further questions.
