Brief Answer:
yup. sure does.

Detailed Answer:
It does absolutely everything that the aspirin like drugs do but additionally it stops the action of cells of the immune system.
Here's a few of the actions:
prostaglandins that cause edema and throbbing and increased pain... not made
cells that eat bone...shut down
cells that put out enzymes the gnaw away cartilage...shut down
cells that activate this whole process shut down and/or killed.

Indeed, you can just get an injection of the same or very similar methylprednisone injected directly INTO the knee and it will sit there for a month. Often the effects last much more than a month because the immune reaction inside the knee was shut down. If nothing happens to reactivate it, it stays shut down.

well... found something that is going to work well for you. cool.

Synvisc is perhaps what they will try to foist off on you. It is not bad. It works. It has close to zero risk. But it just sits there as a lubricant; not an anti-inflammatory.

this is a more balanced one.

Brief Answer:
well... yes.. technically it is a risk....

Detailed Answer:
I am not an expert injector. A family doctor trained in injections can do knee injections; they are easy. That being said I haven't had any infections in the 5 to 10 I've done. Someone who does them frequently will be LOWER risk/more skilled than me. It's not a big risk; many physicians would do the injection. A rheumatologist does these often.
