Suggest Treatment For Pain In Lower Abdomen

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: Hi, I have intermittent pain in my lower left abdomen. It feels like pin pricks and when it is there it comes and goes after every few (about 5 to 10) seconds. While driving, if the road is bumpy, the pain comes back. I am taking Pan-D twice a day and it seems to be helping with the pain. Can you please tell me what is the cause of this pain?

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to Diverticulosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear Mr XXXX,

In the absence of any other symptoms its unlikely to be any significant issue.
The likely cause is due to Diverticulosis of large bowel. It usually occurs due to

1. Decreased intake of water
2. Consumption of diet low in fiber

I would suggest you the following

1. Ensure adequate intake of water: 2-3 liter a day
2. Consume diet high in fiber: 2 servings of vegetable salad and 2 servings of fruits a day will be helpful
2. Continue taking antacid
3. Laxatives will be helpful even though you are not constipated

If the symptoms persist, kindly consult your Physician for detailed clinical examination.

Take Care

Best Regards
DR Deepak

Brief Answer:
Association acid peptic disease to be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Pain occurring due to skipping of meals is also likely to be related to acid peptic disease.

Apart from previous advise I would also advise the following

1
Regular intake of meals

2. Antacid like Pantoprozole will be helpful. You should take with empty stomach 30 minutes before breakfast
3. Avoid carbonated /alcohol /caffeinated beverage
4. Liquid antacid will help

Do consult your physician if the pain persist in spite of taking all these measures.

Dr Deepak
