Question : Hi I have a gnawing pain in my lower right side of my abdomen and would have many hard bowel movements throughout the day. My symptoms began over a year ago and would come and go. At the time my doctor said I have groin sprain and to take a pain killer for 2 weeks three times a day. However, within the last few weeks my chronic constipation has become worse, a took a Dulcolox to get my intestines moving this past week and felt a good measure of relief. I just took another one 15 min. ago. Over the last few days the discomfort has been growing to the point that last night and into this morning the gnawing ache is keeping my awake and I cant seem to find a comfortable position. One a scale of 1-10 this is a 6-7.

Brief Answer:
Constipation to ease; Appendicitis to exclude

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and am sorry for the painful situation you are in.

As the pain on your lower right abdominal quadrant has been growing and associated with constipation and hard stool, then constipation is the cause to the pain you feel .

However, as the pain is not stopping, if I was your caring doctor would advise to run following diagnostic tests :
- abdominal ultrasound
- fecal culture
- colonoscopy

Appendicitis is also to get excluded too;a complete blood count is needed . Discuss it further with your doctor.

Softening your stool and easing bowel movement (bm) is the final solution to your constipation problem;
- dulcolax can help together with
- senna laxative
- increase water intake
- take more fiber rich foods (pear, kiwi, plums, etc)
- avoid foods that would worsen constipation (banana, yogurt, cheese, spicy, chilly )

Hope it was of help!
