Question: I am a 35year old mother of Three girls. Recenttly, I feel a discomfort and some kind of pain in my lower left stomach area. This happens usually when I i stretch an i am turning in bed. The last abdominal scan i did saw nothing there. The pain is sometimes sharp and feels like a movement but it isnt persistent . My last menstrual period was on the 28th of may so pregnancy is ruled out, so I am worried and need answers as to the cause .

Brief Answer:
Get abdominal and pelvic ultrasound done

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
Since how long you have this pain? Does the pain vanish on its own or you need to take medicines? When was the last ultrasound done?
The possible causes for such pain in your case can be due to:
1. Ovarian cyst
2. Fibroid uterus-If your last ultrasound is within a year then this is unlikely
3. Ectopic pregnancy -I am aware that you just had your period on 28th. This could be implantation bleeding of pregnancy. In my practice sometimes I do see patients who give history of regular period presenting with ectopic pregnancy
4. Stone in the ureter

Since you did not mention anything about intestinal symptoms like diarrhoea, bloody stools etc intestinal cause seems unlikely. It is not hernia also since you did not mention anything about abdominal wall bulge.
I advise you to consult your doctor for examination. Get a abdominal and pelvic ultrasound done. This can diagnose the causes I have mentioned above.
If the above causes are ruled out you need to consult Physician to be evaluated for intestinal diseases.
I hope this helps. If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

Thanks doc. I do not have any diarrhea but I would say an abdominal scan once detected a cyst but the doctor said it was an insignificant size and nothing to worry about, especially that I was on my period at the time.
should it be the ovarian cyst, what options do I have?

Brief Answer:
Send me the ultrasound report

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

First get an ultrasound done to find out the cause.
If it is ovarian cyst, its management depends on its size and its looks on ultrasound.

If it is less than 5 cm and has clear fluid in it, then one can observe for 3-4 months to see if it resolves on its own. It usually resolves.
If it is large or has locules or tissue in it then you need to have some blood tests done. This cyst needs to be removed. It can be removed laparoscopically ( key hole surgery).
I can help you better and be more specific, once you send me the ultrasound report.
I hope this helps. I will be happy to answer any futher concerns.

Wih best wishes,
Dr Rama
