Brief Answer:
Seems to be muscle strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

The fact that your pain is occuring with movements indicates a muscle strain. Any strained muscle when stretched gives severe pain.
To get relief from the pain and for quick healing:
1. Do hot fomatation at the site.
2. Apply local anti-inflammatory gel 2-3 times a day.
3. Take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and local swelling or inflammation.
4. Do not sit on hard surface or try to do exercise that involve painful muscles.
Give proper time to heal.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.

Take care

it has to be muscle -i am wondering if this could be bursitis? i do sit for long periods of time which could've triggered this..... there was definitely no activity that could've caused a muscle strain....... how long should i expect this to feel so painful? a few days? would a shot of cortisone help this if it IS something related to bursitis?

Brief Answer:
It could be ischial bursitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As you sit for long hours, it could be ischial bursitis. With appropriate physiotherapy you will be able to return to normal function in few weeks. If it persist even after physiotherapy , then cortisone shot would be helpful.
