default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I have pain between my shoulder blades, pain in my left calf with tingling on the top of my left foot with symptoms of constipation since yesterday. Plus an acute sense of dread. I am a 57 year old female in reasonable good health. I do travel a great deal by driving. I am the president of my own company and have a lot of stress. I have never smoke. I barely have any alcoholic drinks, maybe 5 drinks in the past 12 months

Brief Answer:
You would benefit from some rest and regular exercises!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this pain that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and it is not suggestive of a specific disease condition. This looks more like a combination of different difficulties and stress that have been weighing on you.

It is time you consider taking a break and taking great care of yourself. When we work very hard and always have so much to do, we at times over strain and inevitably report symptoms that are related to general body fatigue than a specific disease condition.

In this light, I recommend some time off and rest., regular exercises of approximately 45minutes on most days of the week, healthy diet, fruits and vegetables and enough fluids. These would help with recovery and also restore normal bowel transit.

In all, rest, regular exercise and healthy diet would help. Could you please share what the stress is all about so that we can look at it together for suggestions and management?

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

I have been worried about pancreatic cancer. My grandmother died from this disease. I have never smoked but I also have a pain in the center of my chest - right between my breasts - to be as accurate as possible.

I am also concerned about the pain between the shoulder blades because neither rest nor medication seems to alleviate the pain.

I wish I could get some rest. I use to exercise regularly. In 2011, I had a "heart" work up after my mother died from heart disease and 3 forms of cancer. No plague was found in my body at that time and my cardiologist was shocked that for a woman of my age that I had no plague.

But, this pain is consistent and nothing stops it.

Brief Answer:
Please, though there is a family history of cancer, it is not for sure.....

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.

I am so sorry to hear about these increased stress related to possible cancer of the pancreas. The fact that you have a family history does not say fro sure you are going to develop it. You are at increased risk and many persons would never get to develop this cancer. Because we know this fact, it puts us on a competitive advantage and we would stay alert and make sure that if you were to ever develop this condition, we would be able to pick it up very early and manage promptly which would be a great way to achieve complete cure with minimal complications. This same information is valid for heart disease. This is to say, though the news of family history of these diseases is not what we like, it in no way means you are going to have them. See how useful this piece would be to us and not focus entirely on the draw backs.

It may be from another cause like spinal issues, lung issues etc.

Do you have any pain in the backbone?
Do you have any other symptoms like cough, fever, etc alongwith it?
What medications have you tried for this shoulder pain?

I hope to hear from you. I hope the above information offers reasons to think positive and shake off some of the stress and enjoy your time.

I do have a slight cough, which has started this weekend. And I am coughing. I do not normally cough. It is becoming persistent.

So, I don't know what to do.

Thank you,
XXXX

I have taken Ibuprofen 3 separate times now and nothing has stopped the pain.

The pain is in the upper part of my back, between my shoulder blades. There are certain areas, when pressed, cause even more intense pain.

I have not started any exercise routine so the pain is not from any outside activity.

So, any other suggestions? I am traveling and cannot reach my primary doctor in Florida. I am in North XXXXXXX

Thank you,

Brief Answer:
Add Tylenol to Ibuprofen!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this follow up question.

With this persistent pain, I will recommend that you add Tylenol to this treatment. The two medications are more effective at controlling pains than just one. If these two fail, then you would most likely need a more powerful pain medication.

Mean while, physical exercises would be very instrumental in helping you get over this pain. Let me know how you are doing today!
