Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: How do I help relieve pain from my right shoulder, up my neck and behind ear. I fell over backwards last week and have been picking up grandchildren, 3 and under. Now I am in bed. Have taken Aleve, used ice pack and heat pack.

Brief Answer:
Frature to be ruled out. pain medication to be optimized

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

first of all when a patient with your problem comes to my office i try to rule out a fracture by clinical examination. If there is any doubt i would schedule an x ray. If it is just a bruise/ no fracture i would recommend cooling and, if naproxen doesn't help alone, combine it with other stronger pain medication which could for ex. be tramadol. Also giving that shoulder a rest is advisable.
A bruise after falling can sometimes take e few weeks to fully recover, so please give it more time and rest to heal.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards

My condition is improving. Not picking up children as often. Continuing with Aleve and warm pack. Know when Aleve is wearing off. Achieving more pain free mobility, less crunching sound in neck, less shooting pain. Resting when able.
