Brief Answer:
Acute sinusitis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

After going through the history, I do feel, you could be having acute sinusitis. Blood stains in the sputum is because of the trauma to the minute and engorged blood vessels in the nose and the throat.

Do not worry! With appropriate measures and medications, this can be solved.

My suggestions to you are:
1. Drink plenty of warm water.
2. Do steam inhalation 2-3 times in a day. Steam helps in reducing the nasal congestion and relieving the nasal and ear block.
3. Try using saline nasal spray as frequently as possible. Saline spray keeps the nose moist and free of pain and bleeding.
4. A broad spectrum antibiotic (such as levfloxacin or cefuroxime) can take care of bacterial infection.
5. If there is any thick discharge coming from the nose or from the mouth, you can add a mucolytic (such as ambroxol or bromhexine).
6. OTC pain relievers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac can be tried.
7. Finally, avoid chilled food and beverages/coffee/smoking.

With the above measures you should definitely feel better. Revert back to me if you have any further queries.

Brief Answer:
She can try all except 4,5 and 6...

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing back

Except for those mentioned in 4,5, and 6 suggestions, she can follow the rest of the measures. Antibiotic has to be decided by your physician, if she is not getting better with the above measures.
OTC pain relievers such as paracetamol can be taken safely for the treatment of pain.

Hope this answers your query. Wish you both good health and speedy recovery.
