Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Armpit And Night Sweats

default
Posted on Thu, 1 Oct 2015
Question: My wife has complained about pain in her armpit for about a month. She went in for an ultrasound a week ago, which then led to a call for her to have a contrast CT. This last test showed a "spot" on her liver. Nothing said about the node in armpit. My question is whether, if the spot were a liver node, the radiologist would just say 'reactive liver node' or something like that, as opposed to just calling it an unidentified 'spot.' In other words, would a contrast CT be sharp enough to eliminate the possibility of a node involvement, if liver nodes are not involved? Nothing else going on like sudden weight loss, night sweats, etc. She has some itching at night, but not during the day.

Brief Answer:
Armpit lymph node requires evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in,

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The possibility of it being a hepatic or portal lymph node will be described by the radiologist. There are typical lymph node locations n and around the liver which are mentioned in the report.

2. If the report says there is a spot in the liver then they will usually mention the density of the lesion and this helps in the ability to make a diagnosis.

3. In the liver we do not tell a reactive lymph node and give the possibility of perihepatic and portal lymph nodes.

4. It will help to know if the density of the liver lesion was mentioned in the report and the size of it.

5. Cysts in liver of size less than 3 cm are not a concern. If it is not a cyst then the next commonest lesion in liver is a hemangioma which is a benign lesion.

6. The axillary node might not be related to it however that requires evaluation by your doctor.

7. Itching at night might be a non specific symptom.

Hope your query is answered
