Question : This morning I slammed my toe into an open door...hurting the toe next the big toe. It is so painful, that it is difficult to walk. I "buddy" wrapped the toes together and went on to work. My question is: Should I consult my doctor and have xrays done? If broken, can anything be done? Thanks for any information.

Brief Answer:
it would be best to be seen

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The x ray may be needed to rule out involvement of the metatarsal bones.

These are the bones just before the toes. Some cases of trauma can affect not just the bones in the toes but those in the other areas of the foot. These types of fractures would require additional treatment.

Some fractures of the toes are not aligned, they may be displaced and require reduction (being put back into proper position).

It would be best for you to be seen to determine if it is a simple fracture or more complex requiring treatment

You need to stay off the foot as much as possible, ice it and elevate it.

Use anti inflammatory medication, if you can use these, to help deal with the pain eg naproxen or ibuprofen

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
