Suggest Treatment For Pain Near The Tailbone

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Oct 2014
Question: I am getting pain in the area around my tailbone, it does not spread. I am now able to sit on certain surfaces as hard surfaces cause this numbing pain to worsen - though if I sit on the couch for a long period there is no issue. I gave birth to a baby 14 months ago and have haemorrhoids since then as well. I have been sitting on a donut for the tailbone pain for months and it's not working (haemorrhoids are not painful or the reason for the donut). When I stand after sitting for more than 20-30mins at a time the kind of pain released as I stand is enough to make you cry but once standing and walking around am a lot better. I went out the other night and was dancing and was XXXXXXX in the morning I had the tailbone pain as it was only ever related to sitting - I think it may be getting worse.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern .Based on your description the suffering you are going through is called coccygodynia. You need to have x-ray of coccyx region to rule out any bony pathology.
For now my advice would be-
1. Sitz’s bath- sit in the tub filled with lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes two times daily.
2. Avoid sitting on hard surface and jerky rides.
3.You may take Ibuprofen along with Injection of depomedrol at the site of pain. You may discuss this with your local doctor.
4.Keagle pelvic floor exercises helps.
It is usually a difficult situation and takes time to heal. But do not lose hope. You will get over it. Looking forward to x-ray report.
Take care and wish you good health.
Regards

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I already had an xray done which came back with no abnormalities/issue. Would coccygodynia still be your diagnosis?

Brief Answer:
Yes it looks to be coccygodynia

Detailed Answer:
Hello
It's good to see you.
I have gone through your reply carefully. The diagnosis of coccygodynia is based on clinical sign and symptoms. In most of the cases x-ray report is normal.
You may continue with the treatment as discussed earlier.
Wishing you early recovery.
