Brief Answer:
index finger pain

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are experiencing pain in the index fingers of both hands with tingling. This sounds like you may have carpal tunnel syndrome. If this pain is worse at night and wakes you along with the tingling then more than likely it is carpal tunnel. This is where the median nerve in the wrist becomes compressed and causes pain in the hand especially the thumb and index finger with tingling. Treatment is using an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen. You can also use splints called cock-up splints at night that will prevent compression on the nerve while you are sleeping

ibuprofen does help with the pain. However the pain is not worse at night nor does it keep me awake. The pain and tingling plus numbness intensifies with use. I use my hands with some force applied daily as I work as a nursing assistant in a nursing home for the elderly. Also I have degenerate XXXXXXX joints from arthritis which is painful and most often the base of my thumbs are swollen and I am unable to apply pressure to the area.

Brief Answer:
still carpal tunnel

Detailed Answer:
Thank for clarifying your condition. I still think you may have carpal tunnel syndrome. The tingling and pain are still consistent with CTS. It may still progress to night time pain and tingling.

The arthritis is also involved and since the ibuprofen is helping I would continue to recommend its use. We have no medications or treatment that will help stop or slow down osteoarthritis

I hope this helps
