Posted on Mon, 13 Oct 2014
Question: Woke up with horrific left side pain under rib cage and I am coughing . What can cause this ? I have been checked out before for chest infections and all negative . Also had an ultrasound of my heart which viewed as normal . However lately I've been having low blood pressure and a somewhat of a fast heart rate . Doc said I have potassium level of 3.3 and iron deficiency of 10. He said that's why I'm feeling lousy . What's your opinion ?

Brief Answer:
I would suggest you to get a ECG

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,
I have studied your case and I would first suggest you to get a ECG as soon as possible. It will tell us if there is any problem with the heart at present. I think you should not delay this.
As you are having low BP and low iron it can increase heart rate and some time that can cause such chest pain also.
If your ECG is normal then other causes of such pain can be chest infection, muscle pain or anxiety.
These causes can be diagnosed with a blood investigation, and a repeat chest x ray.
If there is chest infection you would need to take antibiotics for that. It will cure your cough also.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup question.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
It can be a anxiety issue

Detailed Answer:
I have studied your case. If ECG is normal then we have to think of other causes of chest pain like costochondritis, lung infection and anxiety or stress.
To confirm this I would suggest you to get a fresh chest x ray, and blood investigation.
Also I would recommend you to visit a chest physician and a psychiatrist. Some time sudden anxiety leads to increase heart rate, and sudden sharp chest pain.
I hope this answer will be useful. Let me know if there is any other questions.
Thanks

I am also extremely weak after my baby so weak I can barely walk and it's been five months since I've had her . I asked the doctor yesterday if I had an infection . He said no because of my white count but he did say I have a 4cm ovarian cyst and my blood platelets are high . I asked him if it was Cancer he said he does not know , I need to have it biopsied :(

Brief Answer:
Post pregnancy weakness is common

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam,
I have studied your case and I can assure you that pregnancy can cause weakness feeling. I would suggest you to take iron and calcium regularly. As Brest feeding can also causes weakness , so I would suggest you to increase your calorie intake. You should also drink plenty of waster.
some time weakness can be due to stress also. A psychiatrist help will be beneficial.
For ovarian cyst, I would assure you that it is not always cancer. Post pregnancy some time cyst can be formed. So it is not always cancer. I would suggest you to keep a watch with a ultrasound or a CT scan. I do not think that every cyst needs to be biopsied. If on ct scan there is increase in size then a CT guided biopsy can be done.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other follow up question.
Thanks

You are wonderful thank you !!! Yes I think the extreme weakness is post partum depression although I am not depressed . Always smiling . But yes my friend told me she felt like her body was shutting down from weakness after she had her baby she had postpartum depression . I want to ask my doctor for lexapro so that my weakness can get better . As for cancer in to young so hopefully it's just a stubborn cyst that needs to go away . Also is extreme muscle spasms and twitching anxiety ? Ok on calcium I will start . Right now I just started iron and potasium as that was low for me as well 3.2 vitamin d also low 25. How many weeks of supplement taking before I feel a little better ? This weakness is the worst I have ever felt in my life it's really strange .... It feels like My brain is all there but my body is dying

Brief Answer:
Iron calcium had to be taken for 6 months

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I would suggest you to take iron and calcium for six months. You can discuss this with your doctor. Spasm and cramps can be due to anxiety, and can be due to calcium deficiency as well. So you have to find out the cause. It can be done by a psychiatric evaluation, and blood test.
Let me know if there is any other follow up questions.
Thanks.
