Question : Hello, just recently I was giving SMZ/TMP DS 800-160M and Prednisone 10 mg for a sinus infection I was dealing with... a couple of days later I noticed my penis was real sensitive to the touch around my foreskin on the underside... then a day later my skin turned reddish blackish blue and I noticed blisters started forming. Needless to say its very painful. I have been married 26 yrs and have never had an STD. It doesn't hurt to pee but the skin underneath is very sensitive and burns at times. It just came on within a couple of days of taking this medication. Could I have had a reaction to the meds? And would and antifugal cream or hydrocortisone help me with the pain and the blisters?

Brief Answer:
Needs supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole use is unlikely to cause these penile foreskin issues and on unprotected coitus rules out STDs. I believe its fungal infection or phimosis and paraphimosis common in these uncut foreskins. Yes hydrocortisone and topical antifungals will help and maintaining hygiene and conservative options like manual retraction of foreskin and vertical incisions should be tried but if the issue persists, i would suggest therapeutic circumcision.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

So will the Clotrimazole-Betamethasone 1-0.05% External Cream that was prescribed for my problem help me or should I go back to my doctor and ask for something else? I don't believe it is phimosis or paraphimosis because I never have had an issue with retraction of my foreskin either pulling it back or during an erection, neither has it ever been really tight around the head of my penis. Like I said no problem with that. By the way the blisters that I have gotten now show and look like water blisters that break and then get a greenish residue when I clean them before I use the cream that I was given. My penis is still dark reddish, blackish bluish on the right side and underside. It is still really sensitive to the touch there. I have now had this for about a week and a half. Should I seek further medical help? And as for the SMZ/TMP DS 800-160M generic for Bactrim I did some research and found that some people do and can have a allergic reaction to it and the use of sulfamethoxazole. Sometimes coming out in rashes and blisters in the genital area... Any more suggestions would be appreciated... Thanks...

Brief Answer:
Needs examination and clinical correlation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

With use of clotrimazole and betamethasone,if the symptoms have not improved, let your doctor be paid visit to and have a look at it to sort out other possibilities. As far as sulfa allergies with use of SMT use, i don't think the eruptions will restrict to just groin in case of allergies . But there is no harm in getting evaluated for sulfur allergies as well.

Other possibilities of STDs, fordyce spots , warts, mulluscum contagiosum etc all need to be considered . Only a thorigh examiantion and detailed clinical correlation will help.

I hope it helps.
