Suggest Treatment For Painful Bump Between The Gums And Cheeks

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: I have a small bump right between where my gums and cheek meet I've had it for about a week now. I don't notice any pain besides when I apply pressure to it and the pain seems to spread through the right side of my jaw where the bump is. The dentists have noticed things that may suggest that I grind my teeth at night and I might also clench my teeth as well. The bump is not any color but I am wondering if it is anything that I should be concerned with?

Night grinding , Night guard .

Detailed Answer:
Hello Wpescott94 ,

Thanks for consulting Healthcare magic .
This is Dr. Priyanka Tiwari answering your query .

I have read your query and understand your concern . As far as clenching and grinding of teeth is concerned I would like to tell you in night grinding or clenching the oclussal surface of teeth become flat . The enamel (outer ) part of teeth which protect the nerves within the tooth is worn off with continous pressure . The small bump in between teeth and gum can be due to inflammation of gums or attrition of teeth from continous pressure .

For this you should be concerned . The grinding of teeth can be minimised by using prosthesis NIGHT GUARD. Night guard will redistribute the dental forces and prevent tooth structure wear off and gradually helpful to stop your habit . For this I will suggest you to consult your dentist for prosthesis and treatment done . Inmeantime dont take stress, it is a belief that night grinding occurs due to stress . Take soft diet . Do warm saline rinses . You can take medicine like Anti anxiety and Analgesic by consulting wih your dentist .

Hope I have answered your query .
If you have further query I will be happy to help.
