Suggest Treatment For Painful Corn On Foot

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: My wife appears to have corn (not sure thouhg) in her foot (bottom side). we tried using corn tape but it came out after couple of hours as it got wet while using washroom.
Its painful and severity is increasing with passing day. What should be the next course of treatment and which doctor should we see.

After 5 days of treatment of cold, flu and vertigo, her cold and flu has subdided but she is still very mild vertigo 1-2 times a day

Do we have any doctor which can treat both vertigo and foot corn? Or we need to visit seperate doctors?

Hello Doctor,

Thanks for your response, i have uploaded 4 pictures of the corn. Yesterday we tried putting corn tape in the morning, but it came out by morning. Appears corn tape has made it bit white in colour.

Please advice if we should continue using corn tape and whether we have good quality tape which can give better results. Also, do we need to take additional medication so that corn is treated completely.

Brief Answer:
Application of a chemical cauterizing agent such as salicylic acid 17%

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome back and thanks for posting pictures and the details.

I can understand your concern for the corn in the sole of your wife’s foot. After thorough analysis of your query and I can make out that your wife has the condition medically known as "Callosity".

To explain you simply- These are the deposition of extra skin over the toughened areas in the skin. These are as a result of repeated pressure or repeated contact with rough surfaces. There is formation of a callus or corn type of appearance which causes minor to moderate irritation at the local site.
Later on it may even cause pain during walking as it is present on the pressure site of foot.

If I were your wife’s treating dermatologist then would have first preferred for application of a chemical cauterizing agent such as salicylic acid 17% or trichloro-acetic acid at night time for 2 weeks.

I suggest the application of this lotion after 10 minutes of soaking of foot in warm water. This improves the penetration of the chemical in dead layer as well as removes the superficial callus of deposited skin.

If the improvement is seen then would have continued the same for next 4 weeks or till the time there is complete disappearance of the lesion is there. Simultaneously I preferred to do removal of dead skin by paring of the extra tissue.

If the improvement is not seen then the best method is by cauterization with radio-frequency or by laser. I personally do not prefer the application of corn tapes as these causes large area of dead tissue as well pain over the local site due to continuous application.

Ask your wife to wear soft slippers with foam and shoes with soft cushion. This helps in reducing future recurrence.

You can take further guidance from a dermatologist. I hope this information will help you. I will be glad to guide you any further.

Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Mild to moderate swelling after the corn tape application can cause pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome back to the forum and thanks a lot for your further follow up.

As you have had applied corn tape before the application of the lotion, so it is quite common to have mild to moderate swelling after the corn tape application. This inflammation and swelling can cause pain of variable intensity. You can

It is better to avoid the application of anything over the affected site for few days of period till the pain subsides.
A pain killer tablet such as Ibuprofen or diclofenac can be taken for a day or two. She should use a soft padded slipper to avoid pressure on the area.

Report me after 5 days and accordingly the application can be started.

Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Please do not use anything including Salex L also.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Thanks a lot for your swift response.

Please do not use anything including Salex L also. At this time the skin over the affected area is inflamed and swollen. So application of anything can cause further aggravation.
