Suggest Treatment For Painful Gout On The Legs

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: My husband had surgery in sept, and cannot get rid of the gout on the same leg as the surgery, making rehab and weight earring almost impossible. He's on allopurinol and doc gave him water pill, but the flare up is still there and the foot/ankle is still quite swollen. Is there another more aggressive treatment so he can rehabilitate? Thank you!!!

Brief Answer:
Febuxostat and many more options.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yeah, I have gone through your query.

There are a lot of options for treatment of gout apart from allopurinol.

If I am your treating doctor, I would advise you to have a new and effective drug known as febuxostat, because this medication is to be taken once a day as it reduces the body's production of uric acid.

I usually prescribe febuxostat if allopurinol isn't suitable or causes troublesome side effects.to my patients.

Apart from febuxostat, I also advise colchicine toy patients.

If still response is not up to mark, then I give steroid pack to my patients.

So, atlast I advise you to discuss all these drugs with your doctor, as these drugs must taken under prescription and supervision of your doctor.

Avoid high protein diet.

Take a lot of liquid.

Avoid alcohol and smoking.

I hope you have got your answer.

Thanks,
