Question : I have a painful "lump" on my lower left side. It's about the size of half a grapefruit. It's somewhat hard-ish and feels like I've been hit with a two x four. There isn't any discoloration (such as bruising) and it's only slightly hard. It doesn't hurt when I hold still but it REALLY hurts if someone touches it. It's been this way for three- four weeks. Any ideas? THANX FOR "listening"!

Brief Answer:
It could be Lipoma or Infected Sebaceous cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, it could be Lipoma (fat swelling ) or Infected Sebaceous cyst.Exact diagnosis can be made by Clinical examination and sending the excised swelling for histopathological examination (Biopsy). The swelling can be removed under Local anaesthesia.
Please consult a General Surgeon, get examined clinically and proceed accordingly.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
