Question : I have a red spot on my clitoris when I pull the skin back. It is very painful when I touch it or something rubs against it. Should I be concerned about this? What can I do for it? Should I go to my gynecologist? I am 66 years old.

Brief Answer:
its a frictional sore

Detailed Answer:
hello,
Thanks for contacting health care magic.

To understand the nature of your concern, with reddish spot which you noticed on your clitoris, which burns and pains on touch.

This is a case of frictional injury most likely caused bu the undergarments( panties) when worned with laces or of non cotton material.
secondly at your age atrophic vaginitis is also a common feature which also predisposes to such sores.
avoid nystatin and triamcinoloneas steroids would not heal but aggravate the sore.
aplly ointment soframycin locally thrice a day for 5 days.
Try to keep the genital area dry and moisture free.
Wear loose undergarments so any form of frictional injury by rubbing can be avoided.

i hope i have answered your query.

Thank you for answering so quickly. I do have a lot of dryness in the vaginal area, but do no like using estrace as it sometimes gives me cramps (like period cramps). I only wear cotton underwear though. Where can I get the soframycin ointment? Do I need a prescription for it? Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
use soframycin , easily available

Detailed Answer:
hello,
thanks for the follow up.
vaginal dryness is a common feature in postmenopausal women. evalon cream or estrace is advised to avoid vaginal dryness.
but for the clitoris , soframycin is better.
it is available over the counter as well , depends on country to country. if not then you may ask for a prescription from a physician,
